A Great Tool! -- Thumbsplus 7

Normally I don't endorse other people's products. I don't wear caps or tee-shirts with company names, nor do I shout out products on the net. Let 'em do their own advertising is my motto. But here's a case where I'll break my own rule.

Thumbsplus is an ESSENTIAL tool for anyone that is serious about image manipulation, image viewing, and image tracking. With this very reasonably priced software, you can --

1. View images
2. Perform batch processing
3. Automatically rename images in a folder
4. Create galleries without havingto duplicate images, and thereby save disk space.

Among the batch processing functions (which are fully customizable), you can adjust HSL, color balance, image size (including standard printed photo sizes with their aspect ratios), and apply filter effects.

Here's an example. Say you downloaded 32 images out of your camera, and all need color correction.

Choose the image that is most average, and then view and adjust the color settings. Click okay, but don't save it. Now choose another photo in your folder and load it for adjustment. Choose 'last setting' and check if the setting is close. Repeat this for as many images as necessary. When you're satisfied, choose batch process. Create a new action -- adjust color, or edit an existing process that you named 'adjust color'. Walk through the wizard until the action to be performed is shown. Choose Edit. Once the adjustment window is up, you guessed it -- choose 'last setting'. Click okay, and proceed. All of the selected files are changed instantly, with very little effort.

This is one superb time saver!

Here's another example. Say you want to view certain images out of different folders. Go to the folder you want, select an image (or images) and then add them to a gallery. Go to another folder and add more images. Oops! Need to go back to the first folder? Press the back button and go back to that folder to get another image. Now go ot the folder you were working in before by clicking the forward button. Add all the images you need. Once all you have all the images you want, go to that gallery and drag and drop the images into the display order you want. Want another image from a folder already used? Right click that image, and choose 'Go to folder'. When you're done, save the gallery order so that you can go to this gallery and view the images in a slide show at any time in the future. Sweet, eh?

Thumbsplus can do this and also resize images to either the height or width desired. It can rename all your images that come out of your camera to something meaningful instead of a date number. You can use the program make and view galleries made from different folders. You can send any image to Photoshop using the Open With Editor command button.

Thumbsplus works with many file formats and can view .psd files. However, it cannot save them, but you can view them. It will also work with video files (mpg, wmv, and mov) and allow you to view them with in a playlist/slideshow. It also will allow you to view zip files as folders, and it will also allow you to view font files and install or uninstall them from your Windows/Fonts folder.

Thumbsplus is fully customizable. It is so customizable, it is daunting! You can make the program work just about any way you want it to. This thing just plain rules! You can set up favorite folders and/or disks. You can specify My Documents/My Pictures, or remove these from your favorites.

Go take a look at it. There's a trial edition, and once you try it, you'll buy it. There is NOTHING ELSE LIKE IT available, and it is truly refined and will save you lots of time! And on top of this, it is VERY REASONABLY PRICED! Very!

http://www.cerious.com/

I've been using it since version 4.5. I cannot imagine living without it. Try it for thirty days and see if you don't agree. I'm sure you will. This is a great tool that any serious photographer or Photoshopper needs in his or her arsenal of weapons to get the job done! It will save you tons of time, and provide you with the best viewing experience when you just want to view your work too. Get it!

Seems like a good program. But what is the benefit of using this instead of Photoshop and Adobe Bridge? I write action sets all the time then use them with batch automate.

Is anybody there who knows something about Clone Remover? It's said to be the best duplicate file remover.

I hate Bridge (resource hog, seems sluggish). I use Irfanview for that purpose. It has all of the above features, a kick-ass Explorer-like (but completely customizable) thumb browser, plus you can set up to 3 external progs to open any given image with 2 clicks (I have Photoshop, Jasc Animation & a shortcut to my Imageshack account).

Above that, it will open ANY file type, and can be used as a media player. Unknown filetypes are opened in Hexadecimal. It uses less RAM than the Windows Pic & Fax viewer and opens more quickly as well.

Best of all:
it's FREE & open source.

Sounds good, Dookie! I'd give it a whirl but I'm very satisfied with Thumbsplus. Is great to know that there are other programs like it. Thanks for the heads up!

Cleaner007, Thumbsplus will find duplicates of files that it recognizes (bmp, jpg, psd, etc.) by color metrics, but you need to specify the file to find the duplicate of. Filename does not matter, but you can specify 'by filename' if you want before it does the search, and you can specify that it search a folder, a tree, a disk, or the entire database. So, ThumbsPlus can do this, but it's awkward -- you have to specify which file to match.

As a file viewer (slideshows), TP will display animated gifs, still images, wav files (and I'm not sure, but I think it handles mp3s) and videos (mpg and wmv). It will also display fonts. You can also tell it to view zip files as directories. You can even create an executable slide show (an exe file), and do this with files from multiple folders (files sent to a 'gallery', which is just a subset of files in it's database).

Galleries do not create duplicate images. Instead, they are a list of database entries. Any gallery can be batch processed, and any file in a gallery can be sent to your editor (Photoshop, for example). You can get to any file in a gallery by using the 'go to folder' command. You can get back to the gallery by using the Back or Forward navigation buttons.

Thumbsplus will also make thumbnails and a thumbnail html page for uploading a viewing gallery to a website. The html page will display the thumbnails and link each thumbnail to the original image. This html page is fully customizable, and to make this, you use a wizard. You can tell it the size of the thumbnail to make, how many rows and columns to use per page, and how to navigate through these html pages (with text links or previous, next, and 'back to index' links or image links). You can customize these thumbnail pages with a background image or use plain color.

Thumbsplus' best features are

1 Viewing slideshows
2 Batch processing
3 Web page gallery creation
4 File finding (by keyword, annotations, file extension, or filename)
5 Whole image processing (chaning the contrast, image size, color balance or saturation, etc.)
6 Sending files to an editor (images, videos, and sound files), providing you have such editors
7 Program customization -- you can get TP to work just about anyway imaginable, and you can customize the menus or the control bar
8 A very reasonable price

Download the trial at http://www.cerious.com/

This reminds me of a T-shirt I once saw. It said "Of all the things I've lost in life, I miss my mind the most."
