Sweet Ride! Did you do the ground shadows and shading or was that part of the original pic?

The tutorial only requires 3 layers. The top layer is the picture with the body masked out of the picture.

Step 4 shows the wood layer located below the top layer but the top layer is turned off so you could see what is on the layer. To get to step 5 you just turn on the top layer.

The bottom layer is the reverse mask of the top layer and contains the desaturated metal body pats and has the fill reduced to 90%.

Hopes this helps clarify. Post up your results.

I finally get how this works. Another quick question: How do you mask an object so precisely? when i mask an object it is never as clear cut as yours are. sorry for these stupid questions, I just started using photoshop like 2 weeks ago.

Just practice. Click at one point move down to another and hold shift-click to paint in a strait line between points. Layer masks let you work till you get it right.

thanks, here is the final result, but there is obvious clarity issues. If there are any quick fixes that you know of i would appreciate it. i can't really figure out how to attach a picture directly to this thread, so i'll put it in a link.

Just search Google images or other places for a piece of wood.
