Sorry it took me so long to reply to all of you!

You know, It still astounds me how incapable I am of using the extraction tool properly, I know the theory behind it, and I know how its supposed to work, But whatever comes out looks like I've just handed my pen to a five year old.

Dont even get me started on the fine tuning tools in preview mode.
Practicing is the key! Just play around, it's really not THAT hard! Good Luck!

I've got to cut 10 people out of a pic. this should come in handy.
How did it go?

Quote:
i lile this tool but it works best on solid backgrounds so if you have multicolouyrd backgorounds stay away from this and use lasso or other selection method
I've noticed that it doesn't work as well on all backgrounds... but if you play long enough you can get it fixed with the history brush and the eraser tool!

Great tutorial! I just used this and it worked really good.
Thank you!
Good to know, thanks for the feedback Josh, I hope you are doing well

I always enjoy the background eraser in Paint Shop Pro X that followed up by select all, modify->Contract->1 then invert selection and cut, I find that works best for me and it tends to give a pretty clean render most of the time.
Thanks for the tip

Usually after I did this, I use the eraser and history brush tool to round it off. Post the picture you want to erase a background from and I'll show you my version of it and tell you exactly what I did.

No, it's not in PS-6. Six is plagued with lots of problems. You can't see the cursor on some colored backgrounds. You can't change the quickmask color -- it is red, and frequently in the way 'cause you're working over flesh tones. Fonts aren't shown, they're only listed, so you gotta apply 'em over and over untl you land on the one that's right. There's no auto-color function, and the lack of that slows you down too. There's probably more things missing or wrong, but I haven't found them yet.
