Easy way to cut out an image using the extraction tool in photoshop

The tools like the magnetic lasso tool and stuff works great when you need to remove a background, but it doesn’t always works great around the hair of someone. So, here is an easier way which works great!

This is the image that I will be using:

Go to Filter – Extract. With the Edge Highlighter tool, trace around the edge of the person:

Now with the fill tool, click on the person to fill it.

Click Ok

If there is little parts of the picture that were removed, go over it with your history brush!
Done!
Easy isn’t it?

You know, It still astounds me how incapable I am of using the extraction tool properly, I know the theory behind it, and I know how its supposed to work, But whatever comes out looks like I've just handed my pen to a five year old.

Dont even get me started on the fine tuning tools in preview mode.

i lile this tool but it works best on solid backgrounds so if you have multicolouyrd backgorounds stay away from this and use lasso or other selection method

I always enjoy the background eraser in Paint Shop Pro X that followed up by select all, modify->Contract->1 then invert selection and cut, I find that works best for me and it tends to give a pretty clean render most of the time.
