Step 1: Open a Photoshop compatible image file using
File>Open or
Ctrl+O
Step 2: Select your pencil tool from the floating tool bar, make sure the brush size is set to 1 pixel and set your foreground color as something that contrasts with the pictures colors (I use red)
Step 3: This is the optional step where you zoom into your image so that you can get around the edges more neatly. The zoom tool is located on the floating tool bar, when you select it make sure the magnifying glass on the top tool bar has a plus sign on it. If you look to the left of the zoom tool icon on the floating tool bar you will see a hand, when your image is magnified you may need to use this tool to move the picture around so you can access
different
Step 4: Using your red pencil tool begin to outline the figure you want as line art. The importance of this step is to separate highlights (light areas of the picture) from shadows (dark areas of the picture)
Step 5: On your floating tool bar you will want to select your magic wand tool. On the top tool bar you will want to set your Tolerance value to 0, make sure Anti-alias, Contiguous, and Sample All Layers are all unchecked. Now you will want to click on any part of your outline using this magic wand tool
