How I made Revenge of the bugs

In the first part of the tutorial, I'm going to show you how I have reconstructed the spider.Firstly, I have selected the head from the source with the Rectangular Marquee Tool (M), copied into another layer (ctrl+J) and with Free Transform (ctrl+T) i have made it bigger. You can make it as bigger as you want, depending on your image size.

After that , from one of the spider's right leg and the front part I have created one bigger leg. To unite those two parts you have to use liquify(Filters->Liquify), smudge(r) and clone stamp tool (s).
Now the first leg is done.

To create another leg, you can use the left leg of the spider and the other front part. You combine them with the same methods from the previous step. Now, another leg is finished. With the same methods you create the whole spider.

Now let's move on to some details. To create the spider's "moustache" select and copy into another layer a part from the small spider's moustache.Duplicate this layer and warp and liquify adjust it to the big head.Duplicate the original layer several times and using warp, smudge and liquify create the spider's "facial hair" and arrange it so it fits the big head.As many layers as you can.....every detail counts.

Now let's position all parts of the spider so we can have one BIG spider.

Now that we are done with the spider, let's add a few ropes.Find an image of a knot and place it on the front legs of the spider.I have separated my rope into 2 layers and with the clone stamp tool (S) I have made my rope to look like it is tied somewhere above the image.Take a soft brush and on a new layer with black, make some shadows and on the leg use burn tool (O).

Find another rope image and as in the previous step, tie the back legs of the spider and lower the brightness of the rope.

Now find some bugs and place them on the spider.Add drop shadow to the bugs by right clicking on every bug's layer and selecting Blending Options.

Let's create the background of this image.
Start a new file and make the background black.Grab your brush (B) and select the settings like in my image.

Grab you pen (P) and try to make something like this.

Make sure you have white as foreground selected. Now right click and on your line and click stroke path.Hit ok.Right click again and select delete path. Now you should have something similar to this.

Now create several curved line with different sizes like mine.

Duplicate the lines and move them around.

Now add a glow to the layers from Blending Options and Outer Glow.

Grab a soft brush and still having white as a foreground selected click a few times in the left bottom until you are satisfied with the result.

Now merge all the layers together and copy it on the image with the spider and place this layer under the spider's layers.Set as foreground a nice red color that you like. Now with this layer selected hold alt and select the forth icon in the right corner and pick hue/saturation.Check the box that says Use previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask and hit ok.In the new window that appears check the Colorize box and move the slidebars like this:

Merge down this last two layers and duplicate the new layer and one layer move it in the left bottom corner and on in the right bottom corner. You can also move this two layers identical to the upper cornes but move it so you can see just a little bit of it.On a new layer with a soft brush and red color selected try to paint a bug to be more convincing (this is optional).

On top of all layers, create a new layer and fill it with red.Set it to Overlay and the opacity around 20%.Merge down all the layers.

In this moment we only have one layer.Duplicate this layer just in case something goes wrong.Click on this new layer.Hold alt and again select the forth icon in the right bottom corner and select Brigthness/Contrast, check the box and set the contrast to +20.Hit ok.Again in the layers palette click adjustment layers menu icon and select hue/saturation and set the saturation to +20.hit ok

From adjustment layers icon choose Curves and select the Red Channel.
Here are my settings:
Output-Input
1)101-88
2)158-163
3)255-233
Don't hit OK!

Now select the Blue Channel.
Here are my settings:

1)22-0
2)64-68
3)197-205
4)224-255
Don't hit OK !

Now select the Grenn Channel.
Here are my settings:
Output-Input
1)181-169
2)75-86
You can hit ok now.

With your image selected, go to Filters->Convert for Smart Filters.
Hit Ok.This works like adjustment layers. You cand modify them at any time.
Go again to Filters->Distort->Lens Correction and set the Vignette amount to -100.Hit ok.
Now by double clicking on it you can adjust the opacity.Let's set to 75%.
This is what we have got by now, but it looks a bit to redish to me.

To lose some of that red click on the adjustment layers icon while holding ALT and choose Hue/Saturation.Select the reds and lower the Saturation to about -34 and hit ok.

This is my final outcome.Hope you like it.
