channel mixer tut. (beginner)

This is my first tut and haven't seen this here, or at least hope not.
this is how to use the channel mixer to make a image b&w and colorize an object back.
original photo

to this

first, open a image and go to layer>new layer adjustment>channel mixer.

then click monochrome.

now that it is b&w, make sure your brushes are black and white by default, then select black brush to put color back in, if you do too much, use white to fix.

added some text and finished.

easy tut for beginners like myself.

Nice tutorial, repped. The channel mixer is a great way to do black and white conversions. With the channel mixer you can adjust the settings to keep from losing tonal range, I see people use desaturate all the time and they lose so much information that way. Black and White filter is another great way to do B&W conversions.

I tried this but it doesnt work for me.

When i start using the brush, the colour i get is really faded, and looks nothing like the original

Is there a step im missing?

That worked great. I have the program Gimp and I think this was a lot easier to do. Thanks!
