How To Paint a Robot - a simple photoshop tutorial
This is a simple tutorial on how to paint a robot.
Step 1. First make a new document. Im sure everyone knows how to do that.
Step 2. Choose the paint brush tool. At a low size at around medium opacity.
Step 3. Begin by sketching the outline. Dont get too detailed. Just do enough to where you know the general shape and where features are going to go.
Step 4. Make a new layer. I like to set the layer properties to "multiply, so you can still see the bottom layer while you paint. Begin to paint in the color of the robot. I chose blue.
Step 5. Since youre using a medium opacity brush, each time you click on the mouse, it paints a little darker, adding more color. Use this to add where it would be darker. Darkening the sides of the head make it look more 3d. Since the lightsource is above his head, I make sure to darken areas where the light wouldnt hit.

Step 7. When I felt the color and darker areas where done enough, I merged the layers. I created a new layer set at "normal" I begin using a lighter color, to add highlights. Adding light close to dark areas gives the appearence of depth.
Step 8. Using a smaller brush, I begin adding smaller paint strokes to add detail and to blend the colors together more.
Step 9. At this point its up to you if you want to add any details.
Using these steps, you can paint as many details on as possible. Just remember to paint lights and shadows as well.

Painting is really simple if you stick with the basics. Shape, color, lights, and shadows. If you really wanted to get technical, I could explain how theres lights in shadows, perspective, color theory, and all that good stuff, but its boring and doesnt do much. I like the basics.

Trying to chop a blurry, low res. pic. is like trying to paint a house with a stick. It can be done, but it's gonna look like you painted it with a stick
