I mean scary as in you're afraid to walk down the hallway with the lights off or go out the back door at night scary.
I did get the original with Jack, hopefully it does the job.
for comparison, I laughed most of the way through the original exorcist.

I thought jaws was scarier than the exorcist when I got older, but that scene with the face in the dream is haunting. Some people like halloween, rosemaries baby, salems lot (I liked this one), the night flier (good 80's classic), and American Werewolf in London as well. I own over a 100 good horror movies, but you should specify whether you like gore, suspenseful, or other. I have heard people that thought boogeyman was a scary movie. I am kind of out on that one. Sorry for the long write ups. I am a huge movie buff.

Good call on Kubrick's version of The Shining, it's creepy as hell.
Have you watched it yet t3ch? What did you think of it?
A mate of mine stayed at the hotel they filmed it in when he was a kid, but he didn't see The Shining till I told him to watch it years later
Also a good call on Jaws for being scary even though it's not really a horror film. Add the original Alien to that list too.
And I'll vote for the Evil Dead films as well, especially Army of Darkness although it's more of a comedy.
I watched 28 Days Later again this weekend and it's really nasty.
I'm not sure how well known it is in America, or if it even got a theatrical release over there since it's a fairly low-budget British horror film, but if you find the DVD anywhere it's well worth a look.
It's an interesting spin on the zombie/infection/outbreak type of horror films, and miles better than any of the recent shitty remakes of the classic Romero movies. Check it out.
The sequel, 28 Weeks Later, isn't as creepy as the first but it's still a decent action horror.
Hopefully 28 Months Later will tie the trilogy up nicely.
