I'm looking for some good horror movies that are actually scary. It's pretty hard to scare me so I have high standards with horror movies. Just lookin' for some good ones to watch with the GF this weekend.

I rented the shining since neither of us have seen it, and it's supposed to be a classic. If that falls through, I also rented The Ruins, which is supposed to suck.

The Mist was pretty good, but it wasn't really scary. I haven't seen The Wicker Man so I can't comment.

poltergeist (either the first or second)
Exorcist
Hellraiser
The Entity
A and E doc on Haunting in Connecticut
first pumpkinhead
Their are others, but that is a start. Quit renting these things and just them off amazon too. You can get movies for the same price as renting. Also, the Ruins blow, and yes the Mist is actually a decent psycho horror. I think the first nightmare on elm street if the mood is right is rather spooky. The others blow.

An American Haunting with Donald Sutherland is good too.
Yeah really has a decent plot as well. I found some earlier twilight zones from the 80's series that were pretty spooky too. My favorite spooky episode from that genre of the show was the "shadow man." When I was a kid I wouldn't sleep with a light off for a long time. I was quit sure a shadow man was under my bed. Also, TS if you want some good advice type in "best horror films," and check out some of the lists that come up under google. Amazon, imdb, and other sites have some great lists. They post a lot of movies some have never heard of, but they are very entertaining and worth a look for a good chill. I was looking forward to the Haunting in Connecticut to come out by this month. I just hope it is close to the book, even though the movie is pg-13 and the book is rated M.
