Holly Springs, GA wants to Add Fuel Surcharge to Speeding Tickets

Quote:
ATLANTA (MyFOX Atlanta) -- Drivers who break the law could soon be paying extra in one north Georgia city.

Holly Springs leaders are considering adding a surcharge to speeding tickets to help cover the police department's rising fuel bills.

Within a few days, routine traffic stops along Holly Springs Parkway could net the city another $12 per ticket

Holly Springs Police have budgeted $35,000 for fuel this year. The chief says based on the number of citations written last year, this surcharge could bring in an extra $25 to $35,000.

I don't see how this will pass. If it does, why not add a Radar gun surcharge, and a Uniform surcharge, and a Firearm surcharge, and patrol car surchage, and a well you get the idea.

They want more money? Just raise the amount of tickets from $10 per MPH over to $11 or whatever it happens to be.

agreed.
Pretty lame attempt to make a political point about fuel costs.

I think they were just trying to get their town mentioned in the national news and knowing that anything about fuel gets that kind of attention they went ahead and did it.

X2

and if they somehow get it passed, it will just lead to more surcharges like the OP said
