Exclamation Photoshop tips and tricks

post any photoshop tips/tricks/shortcuts you have.

- Hold ALT, click the object and drag somewhere (creates new layer for you) to quickly duplicate an object

- Press TAB. Hides toolbar and layer pallette so you can see your work area. press TAB to return them.

- Hold SHIFT and press BACKSPACE. allows you to fill an area with either foreground/background color, or a pattern.

- Drag a layer onto 'create new layer' to directly duplicate that layer.

- click on a layer and hit CTRL+E to merge the layer with the layer below.

- always work on a big canvas (i use min 800 x 600) cos its easier to shrink down than it is to enlarge. To shrink, go to Image > Image Size. Change width option to Percentage then enter 80% or something.

- HOLD CTRL+SHIFT+I on a selection, to select the inverse of your selection

you can outline something and hold down Ctrl+J and it will copy what's outlined to a new layer.

The Caps button removes/adds the cursers on your tool. (if that makes sense)

Make a rough selection of an area, type "Alt+L, J,L" and it brings up a new levels adjustment layer. Play with it a little and then fill in the rest with a white brush. Keeping the adjustment layer separate allows you to make further adjustments later with ease.

Let's say you need 'something' from a source pic. You don't want to change the pic, you just need to use it and leave it the way it was, so yo can use it again! Create an action and assign it a keystroke.

Open any pic.
Create another layer any way you like
Click your actions tab. (window, actions)
Theres a little arrow on the tab pointing right.
click it and select New Action
A dialog will come up
Name it 'Close No Save'
Assign it a function key
click record
Close your picture
An "Are you sure" will come up
click yes
The picture will close with no saves, it is still as it was
Click actions tab again (if necessary)
And hit the 'stop button' on your recorder

Done
Every time I need a pic and have to manipulate it for something else, I do the work and then hit my function key to put the pic back where it was and not save anything I did to it. Very handy!
