I just d/l'ed a bunch of filters to test and dropped them in my plugins folder. Turns out I shouldn't have dropped 1,673 filters into the directory all at one time.

it's just because the filters are for another version of PS. CS or 7.0, probably.
they'll be available for download later. PM me if you're interested.

I never use filters, other than maybe sharpen/blur. The reason why digital art is frowned upon by the more traditional artists, is because the use of filters. Anyone can call themselves an artist now adays by just filtering a picture in 5 seconds.
None of this applies to you guys, just the art community in general.

Eh...any traditional artists with that mentality need to get the stick out of their ass. Just because I can toss some filters on a photo and make something cool, I don't claim to be more artistic than an oil painter. But on the same token, there are some digital artists that traditional artists couldn't even come close to. It's just different kinds of art.
I think they're just jealous that we don't have to buy paint and brushs

I agree that throwing a bunch of filters on an image is not art, you end up with a crappy image anyway, plus it isn't photo realistic. e.g. instead of using that fire plugin from eye candy, I use real fire images, it's much better, same goes for smoke etc...
Bottom line is you can achieve better results by not using filters and doing it manually (i.e. use source image + tweaking...)

to continue the filter discussion, I'm pro-filter, because I find source images and work with them. I'm not nda, who can freehand a lot of stuff and I'm not Bosko, who has massive amounts of stock photography because he's a professional photographer.
I love surreal stuff and generated images, which is why it's tough for me to compete at worth1000, because a lot of their contests limit the manipulation you can perform. I'd rather make something cool and have fun doing it, than for someone to look at my work and think, "man, that's realistic. I could barely tell it's been Photoshopped."
and yes, I'm a hack.
