Smoothing edges?

In PS-7, what's a good way to smooth the edges of a ragged cut-out? I usually end up zooming in huge & trying to paint or erase them by hand. I know I'm doing it the hard way...

Also, any advice on how to fade/blend the edges into a background?

Thanx!

Smoothing edges I dont have clue myself

When i want to fade image into the background or over another image i lower the opacity of the erase and blend it in starting by cutting off the sharp corners and working your way in and up the opacity and play with brush size..

Im sure theres a more genius way though?

how about a sample pic? Different versions of PS have different tools as well.

I have never used PS-7, so i'm not to sure if you ca do the following, but try it out and see.

set your feather on your selection tool, Normaly 5 pixels will do it, but you can go higher if need be.

Otherwise cut it nicely, spend some time on it, and then go Layer >> matting >> defringe, and use about 1-3 pixels
