Get your source ie: speakers/text > get rid of the BG > select it by clicking on thumb in layer panel & using the ctrl key > now it's selected go to layers/layers style & use the outer glow option > or ya can just click on blending options in the same tab & it will open a new box where you can adjust glow colour/size etc. Anyways that's how I did the below, I am sure there would be other ways also. Basically the tool you need is in the layer/layers style/blending options/outer glow. Hope this helps.

I like that idea, though trying it your way doing the below the opacity was at 100%, too low ya get nothing.

...also change the colour to what ever ya want obviously.
