Having a brain fart

I've done this before, but it's been so long that I have forgotten how...

I'm typing something in PS and I used several different types of text, arranged them the way I wanted them and used a text tool that has some shapes and designs.

Now I've discovered that I should have done it in white text instead of black. After I change the text to white, I can barely see it now and can't remember how to change the background (that's now a gray and white checkered look) to a black background.

Also, how can you make the background completely transparent so that when I save it, I can put the text on a website and all you will see is the text and not the background (that would be a box).

Any help would be appreciated.

PNG or GIF format for the transparent background. Or you can screen cap the background and paste your text on it(makes for a much smaller jpeg file).

To create a transparent background just create a new layer and position it as the bottom layer and delete the previous background layer then save the image as a png.
To change the color of the background layer there are a lot of ways. The easiest for what you described would be to select the color you want the background to be activate the background layer then select all from the sect menu bar and use the color bucket tool

Thanks so much guys. I did it the png way and it worked just like I wanted it to.

As for changing the background color...the paint bucket way won't work. I've already tried that. I get a circle with the line in it.

Did you make sure the background layer was selected and not another?

- Create a new layer.
- With black (or whatever you want) as your foreground colour, hold the ALT key and press BACKSPACE.
- Move this layer to the bottom of your layers palette.
- Profit.
