A Better Voting System For The Contests

I would like to propose a new voting system for the contests. One that is both fair and benificial.
Here is a sample ballot.
It is still based on the 5 point system but they are broken down into 5 catagories worth a maximum of
1 point each. The way I've broken it down awards the bulk of the possible points for chopping skills
as it should be. The guidelines I've outlined eliminate the guesswork on how to rate the entries and
lets the choppers see which areas of their skills they need to work on while still letting the voters
remain annonomous.I believe a system like this would encourage more participation in the contests for
both voters and choppers. A simple spread sheet would be easy to set up for the ballot and would allow
easy tracking of the votes for every catagory.
If we're using a system, then all votes cast should be roughly identical. If that were the case, why even allow voters to vote? We could just get tx to vote each one instead, if that were the case.
I think there are times when chopz don't look all that great, but are hilarious and therefore still deserve a score above 1.
Wouldn't be a bad checklist for people making chopz though. At most, i'd say you could mention somewhere that voters should take areas such as humour, lighting, shadows, blending, and general realism into account when voting. I don't think giving them a system is necessary.
Yeah keep it simple.
A chop could be outstanding but only in one particular category (i.e. crap quality but still really fecking funny), so it wouldn't score highly overall and might lose out to an ok chop that just ticked all the right boxes.
It'd be interesting if you could see how many votes were cast for each pic though. Below it's score or something.
Lighting, shadows, blending, and realism could all fall under one category which could be called "technical skill". Another category could be how well your photochop fits the theme of the contest.
With that said I think we need more contests geared toward graphic design.
One thing that I have always wondered is how may votes do each of these chopz get? We can all see the score and the number of views, but not how many members actually voted on the chop.
Edit: treehugger I see we were thinking the exact same thing.
I agree though, it'd be interesting to see how many people vote... Even seeing the actual anon votes themselves would be interesting, but we wouldn't need that.
It's supposed to be a photoshop contest not a comedy contest and the real purpose for breaking the voting down the way I did was to allow feedback to the members on what is and isn't good about their entry, this would give them some idea on where to focus their attention to improve their chop skills
Much of chopz is comedy. You don't have to make a funny picture, cool pictures are awesome, but it's good to keep things lighthearted. If the picture is up to scratch, people aren't going to mark you down for lack of humour. As for increased constructive comments/feedback, a voting system isn't the only/best solution IMO. At most, tell them to be conscious of things such as lighting, blending etc when voting.
I give every entry but mine a FTL! anyway, and i don't see how a system would change that.

Contests can be won by very well made chopz or very funny chopz.
People's judging criteria vary, so a simple 1-5 rating makes allowance for that.
And if anyone feels like offering their advice on how a picture could have been improved then they can leave comments.
It's true that it can suck if for example you spend ages making a pic look realistic or correctly lit or whatever and then it loses out to someone who's just headswapped Brian Peppers onto something funny; but just suck it up and move on to the next one. It's not like Josh is giving away speedboats or booze as prizes.
