Hey everyone, a friend of mine needs a new banner for his site.

its a site for people 21-35 that are into Music, Night Club stuff. The site is promoting Apple, and iTunes products.

Right now he just has that stary sky thing repeating over the top. So probably something like 500 or 600 px wide would work. that way he could center it or he could put it to either side.

I just got a PM from him, he said he wants something:

"Maybe a sexy sillouette, legs, fishnets, champagne, heels, sexy eyes, something like that"
also
"It's a Night Life Entertainment Blog
Night Life, House and Trance Music, Club News, DJ's and Artists, Hot travel spots.
I need it to be black on the left side, and fade into the image on the right.
You'll see what I mean, and the dimensions.
So that nothing will interfere with the title fonts.

The problem is that when he'll resize it the picture used for the banner will get distorted. We have to get an exact banner size

here's a sketch of something i did. some of it is brainstorm that won't be exactly like that (the .com part won't be there)

it's not exactly what he asked for, but i think it'll look pretty good when it's finished. where it says 'text,' that will say

Night LIfe Entertainment
Travel
Clubs
Music
(all on separate lines)

The music notes will be in the background instead of the stary night pic he's currently using, still on a black base.

should i proceed? yay or nah?

Ya, definitly, that looks good.
As far as the resizing thing, I think he's open to changing his layout a bit to accommodate a new banner so that shouldn't be a big deal.

i have 0 creative juices. if you can get more details out of him, i'll be able to follow the instructions. for awhile now, coming up with ideas hasn't been my strong suit.

Here I am with a few more details. First of all thanks for helping me out, it is much appreciated.
Ok, I did a measurement of the header image and it's:

985w x 100h. of actual visual space. (Of course I could adjust that a little)

About the blog:
Although iTunes, and The Apple Store are the main monetization right now, the big picture is Travel (to events, and hot vacation destinations like Ibiza), and Ticket Sales, (Still looking for a good affiliate deal).
So I am looking for something that implies sort of a "Jet Set" party goer, club, sexy, house music, sort of vibe.
Some images that come to mind that imply the attitude are:

Champagne in a bucket.
Sexy Legs, Heels (sitting on a couch at the club, or stepping out of a vehicle out side the club)
A pretty female face, or a portion of one,like a profile, or sexy eye's , (Or eye in a profile)
Sexy Silouettes

Things and images that imply VIP clubbing (You know like the over priced, $500 a bottle crowd)

Something classy. Minimal is fine, You can say a lot with just a simple image.

I am a code hack, I do what I can, but it would make it easy to install if the left side of the header was kept dark, so as not to interfere with the text, and translation flags (I have no place else to put them), and just fades into something on the right.
So the focal point will be the right side of the header.
There shouldn't be any text in it, unless it's going to act alone as the blog title, and description, and I take the Blog title , or , Blog Description out all together.

I have associations with some artists management, and a few night club corporations, and I need to make sure that they are comfortable with their association with me, so edgy is fine, just like, no nipple or nothing.LOL.

I hope that will give you a better idea.

Right now you have it so its different on everyones screen, on your screen it is 985 wide but on my screen it is much wider. On a 800x600 screen it would be smaller because it is re-sizing to fit the screen.

Maybe we could use three pics so it could still resize. You could have the pic on the left be black with your text, then a pic in the middle that resizes to fit the screen, then the banner stuff on the right blending in with the other pics.
It would look like one pic but would fix your stretching banner issue. (I think)

Hhmnn. I'm not sure I know how to do that, but you are the expert.
Is there anything that I can do to alleviate that problem.
I resized the banner because I need the space. I didn't want half of the screen to be banner.
Maybe I'd be better off with just a repeating gradient background.
What do you think?

No, your definitly not better off with the repeating gradiant.

just set the background of your header to black. (I think it already is)
then we will put the banner to the right and have it blend in with your black/stars background.
So we will want the banner to be only like 3 to 500 pixles wide. Check out the top of this site, thats what I have. I've got the banner pic on the left and the rest is just bg color. So you could have it be the opposite only with it blending.

This shouldn't be very dificult now that I think of it. We just need a 400-Wx100-H banner pic that can easily blend in with the stars or at least with black.
