Question Textures

Might be a little more advanced for what the usual topics are but I've been trying to figure out how to load textures whether already saved in photoshop or my own and be able to blend/match to another texture, color etc..Example I am trying to blend a crocodile head to a boluga whale I'll show what i've done so far but the prob is getting the croc scale texures to blend with the smoothness of the boluga, I used a albino croc to help with the color but that won't always be possible for other textures any tips from the pros on blending textures color and the texture it's self?

try cloning with a 0% harness brush, as large as possible for the target area, and set the opacity to 50%.
or conversely, keeping the croc head on a seperate layer, clone with the same 0% hardness brush set to 100% opacity down past the desired transition point, then use a 0% hardness eraser set to 50% opacity to feather the transition from the croc to the whale.
Color-wise, sometimes a complete desaturate of the crock and then sampling the color of the whale to recolor the crock.
Using brushes in a combination of overlay and multiply will get you in the ballpark, and then hue-sat-brightness to fine-tune it.
