Help with ligtening a section of a photograph please!!!!!
Hi Guys
I am new here, so firstly a big hello to you all!!!
I am having a problem lightening a tree in a photograph I have taken. The tree is at the front, right at the left hand side of the image and it is spoiling the image. I have tried selecting various parts of the tree and lightening them individually, but the outline of where I have edited is always visible. I have also cut out that section of the photograph and edited it alone, but when I paste it back into the photograph I have a big black line running down where I re-joined.
Now can anyone tell me how I attach the picture? :-S
Which tree, the red or yellow circled one? And what are you trying to lighten, the shadows I marked? Or are you trying to remove the tree altogether?

I am so sorry!! I was busy with my little girl at the same time as I was typing and I got my left and my rights mixed up!!!
The tree is the one on the RIGHT hand side of the picture. It's very, very dark. I have tried to lighten it and enhance the green, but everytime I try the outline is visible where I have edited.
Hiya, Yeah the tree has got to stay unfortunately. It's a picture of a friends garden my dad took and he insists the tree has to be in the picture. Awkward or what?
you could do a quickmask of the tree, and then do a brightness/contrast style on the selection. just mask out the parts that show after that. don't know if that would work or not. worth a try.
Did you want the whole tree to reflect the sunlight? That will involve some work. Otherwise ridgerunner's got you set I think.

I have been looking online for some tutorials to show me how to do that and I can't find any :-( Would someone be willing to give me the instructions please? I am sorry, I am a complete novice at all this
With regards to the tree reflecting the sunlight, I want to try and keep it so that it is only the top of the tree that has the sun light hitting it.

No shame in being a beginner, we all were at one time.
I'm not sure what you'd want the shadow altered for in that case, as it will contrast with the rest of the natural lighting in the photo. If you just want it to stand out more with a more vibrant green like ridgerunner did, I'm sure he'd explain what technique he used.
