My HP dv9260nr is only a year old and its shutting off by itself and now wont save pictures I haent dowloaded anything so i dont realy know whats wrong with it. Its getting kinda of annoying though doing something then my laptop just shutsoff. Anyone heard of anythin? My brother says his HP laptop does the same thing, and he cant figure ou how to fix it.

Do a system scan and save a log file.

Post the log and I may be able to determine the problem, don't try to fix anything yourself, just run the program and post the log.

reboot.
go into safe mode with networking.
go to http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html and get superantispyware. install, update and run. let it clean anything it sees.

you may need an anti-rootkit:
http://www.sophos.com/products/free-...i-rootkit.html

d/l and run that as well.

even without knowing whether or not you need it, you can also d/l and run Vundofix:
http://vundofix.atribune.org/

after all that, reboot into windows.
run hijackthis and post another log.

these are all major signs that you have some kind of spyware/malware going on. BHOs are Browser Helper Objects, which basically transform/help/whatever your Internet Browser. Usually its something like Google Toolbar, but other items get in there, too. After cleaning with the above tools, when you run HijackThis, you'll see (file missing) after those entries. You'll check (click) that box next to the entry and choose "fix" to remove those entries from your registry, but ONLY if they say "file missing".

have you upgraded to Vista recently? if not, what version of XP are you running? (right-click My Computer, choose "properties", under "System")

ya ive always had vista. just recently my trend micro sub expired and for some reasons im having a hell of a time getting it to renew. thats when this stuff started happening actually

Some viruses are good at stopping virus protection software and may be why you are having difficulty upgrading. I would try the online trend micro scan Housecall if you cannot get a scan to run on your machine. If you can do this in safe mode with networking, even better.
