Animated .GIF not working as avatar? - Photoshop Tutorials | Photoshop Contests

I used imageready to deconstruct a .MOV file then I saved the file as a .GIF file. After that, I uploaded the .GIF onto photobucket and it moved and worked perfectly there. Then I tried uploading it here as my avatar, and it doesn't move. Can someone help me please?

reduce the overall X/Y stats to 80x80 and you should be fine. I'll doublecheck the setting.

But yours is much larger than 80x80 and it works fine...

So you can't have a moving .gif avatar without upgrading to VIP?

Yes you can, but the file size restrictions are smaller/tighter. Have you checked your file size and dimensions. Post the original in a reply and let's see if it will play in a post.

OK here is the original.

Reducing the size to 80x80 made it work though. I'll just mess around with the size of it to get the biggest possible with it still working.

You can also reduce the amount of colors to reduce the file size but it will start getting grainy.

the thing with animated GIFs vs. JPGs is that the forum can resize JPGs easily enough, so you can feed it a huge JPG and it will crunch it to your maximum size.

the GIF, on the other hand, when resized by the Automatic-Resizer-Thingy™, keeps only the first frame of the animation. You have to resize the GIF in your animation program for it to worky.

So is it file size or is it image size? What's the restriction on file size? Because I had mine under 2.8 meg or whatever it is, and it didn't work. Is it under 1 meg and it works?

Edit: I think 400 KB might be the limit. I adjusted the size of mine until it worked, and right now it's 376 KB and 98x73.

With gif, it's both. Since you can have a lot of frames stacked up, the file size can be big with a small image format.
